João Doria, Mayor of São Paulo and Aldo Della Rosa
João Doria is mayor of São Paulo, elected with 53% of the valid votes, in a historic election, defined in the first round. He is from São Paulo, is 59 years old, married and has three children. Journalist and publicist, Doria is a licensed president of GRUPO DORIA, founder and president of the Executive Committee of LIDE – Group of Business Leaders and member of the Deliberative Council of the Social Solidarity Fund of the State of São Paulo.
Son of João Doria (1919-2000), federal deputy elected by the PDC of Bahia and annulled by military coup of 1964. Moved with the family to France, where the father was exiled by 10 years. He was Municipal Secretary of Tourism and president of PAULISTUR, from 1983 to 1986, in the management of Mário Covas in the São Paulo City Hall. He participated in the organization of the Direct-Ya campaign in 1984, at the request of the then governor of São Paulo, André Franco Montoro. He presided over EMBRATUR and the National Tourism Council from 1986 to 1988.
In 2001, he joined the PSDB. In 2007, he led Cansei, a civic movement for Brazilian law, in the face of the monthly scandals of the Mensalão. He was also Director of Communication for Bandeirantes Television Network (1979 to 1982) and professor of Marketing at FAAP – Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation, in São Paulo (1981 to 1983). Founder and vice president of the São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau.
He is the founder and chairman of the Executive Committee of LIDE – Group of Business Leaders, created in 2003. It currently has 1,700 affiliated companies, representing 52% of national private GDP. He has presented the talk shows “SHOW BUSINESS”, since 1992, shown by TV Bandeirantes and “Face a Face”, in BandNews Network, besides the reality show The Apprentice. In 2012, for the fourth consecutive year, was elected one of the 100 most influential people in Brazil and the world, by ISTOÉ magazine.
In 2014, he was elected one of the 100 leaders of the best reputation in Brazil, in a survey conducted by the European company Merco, published in Brazil by Exame.com. He will also be honored in May 2017 with the Person of The Year award, granted annually in New York by the Brazilian American Chamber.
